Humbled and Excited

Just like that, another month has passed in our Non Profit Journey! It’s been another wonderful, surprising and humbling month for us.

Your support never ceases to amaze us. We have received more clothes, furniture, baby items and household goods for Anchor Hope! The kindness and giving spirit that you have shown to us as well as the foster kids and foster families that we will be helping is so up lifting. We can’t say thank you to each and everyone of you enough.

We are still working on the patience thing, our 501c3 has not arrived yet but we are hopeful!! Fingers crossed we will have it by the end of this month. Keep lifting it up in prayers please!

Anchor Hope has also been lucky enough to have a wonderful young man, Bryson to help us organize, sort and label the items that are coming in. He is such a huge help! If you know anyone who needs service hours for school, a club or organization they are part of, please let us know!

In case you missed it!! We have a very exciting event coming up on Friday, November 30th at 6:30pm! Anchor Hope will be hosting it’s first annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction!!

Live Music will be provided by the one and only Greg Brown! We will also have representatives from DSS, Children’s Home Society and 7 Homes for Children there. They will share a little bit about what is going on and happening with the foster care system today.

Make sure to RSVP to anchorhopehome@gmail.com or text your RSVP to 336-549-5593. Let us know if you are bringing children and if they are going to need childcare.

WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU THERE!

The Little Things

Can you believe it? A whole nother month has passed! It’s been a quieter month this time around. Not a bad thing but a bit different compared to the whirlwind that has been surrounding us during this process.

We are learning so much that I keep waiting for brain matter to start leaking out of our ears at this point. The newest item we are learning about at the present moment is zoning requirements for our Community Resource Center. AND that it’s not straight forward. It depends on the neighborhood, the town, part of town and what we are doing. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised though, we haven’t encountered anything straight forward at this point. Go figure.

We are being gifted an awesome high school student that is going to be volunteering with us starting next month for his volunteer hours. He will be able to help organize donations, help with social media and research among a lot of other tasks that will help move us forward in the right direction! Hey, if you know any other students who need service hours let us know!

We are receiving so many gracious donations, from friends, family and many people we don’t even know! This has been the biggest blessing. We wouldn’t be where we are without all of you!

Another wonderful thing that happened this month is that we sold 3 crochet blankets! 2 afghans and a baby blanket. This will cover our address and a few other expenses for 2 months! PROGRESS. Every little thing counts and adds up.

Also guys, there is a new movie coming out that is about a foster family! This is a rarity and not a lot of focus has been put on foster families in recent years. It’s called Instant Family. Check it out!

Still waiting on the 501c3. We are working on this whole patience thing….. There is a good possibility it’s teaching us some good life skills there. Hopefully we will have an update soon!

Mark your calendars, we are planning on having a dinner to share about what Anchor Hope is doing on November 30th. More information to come on that in the following months.

We would love to come talk to your organization, rotary, circle, or any club that you are a part of to share what we are doing. This is a big need in our community and we can’t wait till it’s fully operational and running!

The Whirlwind

Hi Friends! It has been a month since our last post and what a whirlwind of a month it has been . There is so much we need to update you all on! For the time being though, the blog is going to be monthly, so they will probably stay pretty packed!

So from July 25th- August 24th, it feels like a year has passed. We had our big tv online raffle which was quite a success. We didn't earn as much as we had wanted to but we DID learn a lot and that's important. We learned we need to reach more people and more people need to know about us and what we are doing for foster kids. That being said a HUGE congratulations to Lynn Long who won the TV. Thank you so much for participating and all of your support! Also THANK YOU to EVERYONE who participated, who is spreading the word about Anchor Hope, who is praying and for loving us and what we are doing. Your support really means the world to us.

We have also had some amazing and impactful meetings with DSS, the Children's Home Society, Crossnore and 7 Homes. The good news?!?!? Are you ready for it? They are bought in. We have their 100% support for Anchor Hope and how this special Community Resource Center will be used.

We were also lucky enough to be able to donate two full bags of baby clothes to In All Things Love, a wonderful non-profit run by Shanda Trogdon. If you are a foster parent and are in need of anything baby or kid related please contact In All Things Love, Family Room and One Child's Voice. They will get you everything you need and more.

Two other pretty amazing things have happened too! We have received two separate gifts from two amazing people of twin beds! One room outfitted in the CRC. Thank you Lynn and Shanda!

We are still waiting on our 501c3. We should receive our temporary one before our next blog post. Fingers crossed.

In the mean time while we are waiting for it so that we can do the big fundraising we have been selling furniture and crochet items to cover our current monthly expenses. Here are a few of the Crochet Items and Anchor Bracelets that we currently have for sale if you or anyone you know would be interested. If you see one you like, let us know, make a donation on the website and it's all yours!

How can you help? I know you must be asking yourself this all the time.

The Beginning of Our Non Profit Adventure

Hey Everyone! So not only are we new to this non-profit thing we are new to the whole blogging thing as well. That being said we thought we should share what's been going on and where we are now with getting the non-profit up and running.

Back in March, we realized there was a need in the Greater Greensboro area for more support for foster children and foster families. There are over 11,000 kids in or in need of foster care in NC alone. The problem is that there are not enough families for all of these kids and the foster families who are already helping are getting burnt out due to lack of support. The BIG BIG problem, kids are sleeping in the offices of the social workers because there aren't enough homes for them. SO that's where we decided to come in. We are still working through a lot of questions.

- Where can we get a house for them?

-How can we get a house for them?

-What are the biggest needs?

-How can we help the fastest?

Our first answer came from 7 Homes that guided us to starting the Anchor Hope Community Resource Center. This will provide a safe place for the social worker and foster child to go while waiting on a family to come available.

So far in this process we have become incorporated and started the process of getting out 501c3. We have also partnered with two AWESOME non-profits in the community: Family Room and One Child's Voice. In doing this we have already provided 4 boxes of baby clothes and one tote bag full of formula to these organizations to support foster kids and foster families!!

I'm sure you are probably asking yourself, how can I help?

  • PRAY and pray specifically
  • Donate(children's clothes/items, baby clothes/items, money)
  • Spread the word
